Chris Coyne is determined to win back his place in Colchester United’s starting line-up.

The no-nonsense centre-half has been a substitute for the club’s last two games.

However, as he prepares for Australia’s friendly against South Africa at Loftus Road tonight, the U’s skipper said he will be doing everything in his power to force his way back into the team.

He told the Gazette: “The lads have done well over the last couple of games but I’m no good to anyone sitting on my backside.

“I want to be playing and I’ll be making sure that I’ll be pushing hard to try and get my first-team place back.

“The national team is a bonus for me – but I know that club football is my bread and butter.”

Coyne is looking forward to experiencing another taste of action for the Socceroos.

Having made his full international debut earlier this summer against Iraq, the Brisbane-born defender is relishing the chance to represent Australia once again.

“It’s nice to be playing this game in the UK and South Africa will be good opponents for us,” said Coyne, who has been joined in the Australia squad by former U’s ace Richard Garcia.

“It’s a good opportunity to bring all of the players together, ahead of the qualifiers.

“There should be some good football played and the South Africans have some good, talented players.”

Having not tasted any competitive action for ten days, Coyne heads into tonight’s clash in west London eager for match action.

“After not playing the last couple of games for Colchester, I’m feeling fresh,” added the 29-year-old.

“I’m enjoying playing for my country, especially getting together with some of the players I knew from playing at under-16 level.”

Do not worry Chris you will be playing out on the right wing to replace Yeatsy when he finally moves to Palace.
