A MAN needed plastic surgery to his face after a vicious assault in Colchester.

The 26-year-old man was bleeding profusely after it is believed he was either stabbed repeatedly with a craft knife, or glassed on the corner of St Botolph’s Street and Queen Street.

A woman, in her 20s, also had wounds to her leg and hands.

They were both taken to Colchester General Hospital where the man needed 36 stitches in wounds to his head, face, shoulder and arm.

He was later transferred to Ipswich Hospital, where he is understood to have undergone plastic surgery to his face.

The woman’s injuries were not believed to be serious.

Colchester police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at about 1am on Sunday, which they believe happened after an argument between two men.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Det Con Michelle Long at Colchester CID on 0300 333 4444, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Take all the bloody cameras out and throw them in the police station. Sack all the council CCTV workers and save some money. There is CCTV all over this area and it hardly comes up when reporting on this type of incident. If this was a policeman or a councilor that was attacked, they would all be looking at every inch of CCTV and I bet they would come up with something and what about the CCTV room, what do they do? read a book, it's saturday night for gods sake, the only other night that's busier is Friday. If CCTV does not work in the St. Botalphs/Queen Street area and this is the hot spot for fights every Friday and Saturday night, then what's the point in having it at all in Colchester.

I witnessed a man in his mid 20's being attacked three weeks earlier at the same place and the same time, in the early hours of the morning on a Sunday around 1am. He was left on the ground on the corner of St Botolph's Street , where he appeared to be in tremendous pain. The man was rushed to Colchester A&E, where he was later transferred to Ipswich hospital. He also needed surgery to repair his face after the attack!
