Colchester's Sarah Claxton finished eighth in the final of the women's 100 metres hurdles at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The 28-year-old, who booked her spot by finishing fourth in the semi-finals yesterday, clocked a time of 12.94 seconds.

Lolo Jones, the red-hot favourite from the United States, hit the penultimate hurdle with her leading foot, stumbled and allowed compatriot Dawn Harper to storm through and take gold in a time of 12.54s.

Sally McLennan, of Australia, took silver with the bronze going to Canada's Priscilla Lopez-Schliep.

Jones finished fifth.

Hughie S and Enforcer, when was the last time you finished better than eighth in the world ?? Unless any of us can do better we should stop moaning and praise the whole of the British Olympic Team.

Well I'm proud of her. She may have come last in the final. BUT she was IN the final, which is more than any of the people knocking her will ever be.

She's clearly a lovely girl, from a lovely family. Which I think is part of the reason that the Gazette are so keen to push her story. Let's show a bit of pride in her excellent achievement in getting there and not knock her back for coming last on the day.

I agree, she is the eighth fastest in the world, yes she came last in the final but to get to the Olympics is a feat in itself that we should all feel proud.

Well Done Sarah! and well done Sarah's mum who gave up so much to help her on her way.

With the amount of time Hughie & Enforcer spend on here posting, I doubt very much they could move their lard @rses off their seats let alone over a hurdle!

As said by the posters that followed them Sarah Claxton was there & did her best.

You cant fault that one little bit, its an awful lot more than than most will ever achieve in their lifetimes!

Well done Sarah for getting to the final and never givng up on your dream.

Can I just say that when I said embarassment I meant the way the Gazette have published it saying she came eighth. I respect her for what she has done but she only ever just scrapes through to major championships and I dont think she will ever reach the top. I certainly wont take criticism from people who live in St Osyth and Clacton. Inbreds.

Just the fact that some idiots feel compelled to comment on the validity of Sarah's fame is proof that she has made it to the top of her profession!

Sarah - being eighth in the world is fantastic. I know how much you've always wanted to make it and I can be safe in saying that you would have made your mum very proud. Well done.

Well done Sarah - you are the top Brit - the only one to make it to the final. And lest we forget, well done Saskia, too - there's no shame in sixth either.

Ignore the few imbeciles, Sarah, you are among the eight best in the world in your chosen event, whereas they have done nothing in their lives. The majority of us here admire you for getting to the final.
Does everyone have to win a medal? It's getting boring, the team have been so magnificent.
Our cyclist Mark Cavendish will go home without a medal, yet last month he won four stages of the Tour de France, something no Brit has ever achieved before. Is he a failure? No, he is a great young champion.
The important thing is to take part and do your best. Sarah did that, and like others here I congratulate her for that.

Ah look Enforcer is trying to wriggle out of it and rather pathetically as well.
