CLACTON’S first country park could be handed over to Tendring Council within weeks.
Leisure bosses are preparing to take over land at the Brook Retail Park on the outskirts of the town.
A council document outlines its wish to transfer the land into its ownership next month.
However, legal experts are not so confident the deal will be sealed that quickly.
The country park is part of Britton Construction’s out-of-town shopping development, which opened more than three years ago and includes Tesco, Pizza Hut and B&Q.
So far, hundreds of families in the fast-expanding Cann Hall Estate and London Road area have not been able to use the 35-acre grassland.
The green space has remained closed as negotiations between the developer and council continue.
It is understood the authority is negotiating how much cash the company will contribute to the park’s upkeep.
